FAQ

What is a tax refund?

A tax refund is a payment made by the HMRC to anyone who overpays income tax. This may occur when you have been taxed on so-called emergency tax code (BR) or if you have not been working for a full tax year.

When can I make a claim?

You can make a tax refund claim if you think you've paid too much tax and usually after the tax year has finished. You may however claim during the current tax year but only if you are leaving the United Kingdom and do not intend to take any employment before 5th April. You can check how much you can claim using our tax refund calculator.

How many years can I claim for?

You can claim tax refund for the last six years, providing that there is a refund due. Remember that the UK financial year (tax year) runs from 6th April to 5th April the following year (2008/09 starts on 6th April 2008 and ends on 5th April 2009).

What do I need to make a claim?

You will need original:

  • P45 for each period of employment you have had during the tax year (given to you at the end of each employment).
  • P60 from the company where you were employed at the end of the tax year.
  • all CIS payslips (CIS stands for Construction Industry Scheme) given to you by your contractor(s) during the tax year (if you have ever worked in Construction Industry). Please note that if you were given any CIS payslips you must also provide us with Self Assessment Tax Return sent to you by the Inland Revenue in April. However, if you would like to claim your overpaid tax during the current tax year because you are leaving the United Kingdom you may also do so.
  • Statement of Earnings from your employer only if you have lost your original P45 or P60. Remember that your employer is not obligated by law to issue such document, so you should look after originals. If you cannot get this from your employer we will be happy to help, but we would need to charge extra for this service (£10+VAT per item – to be deducted from your refund).

Do I need to visit your office personally?

No. You may use our tax rebate calculator, and if you are due a tax refund, the application form will show up asking for some details. Once you complete this form welcome pack will be sent to you by email. Then you will only need to fill in a form, sign all forms and send them back to us using our freepost address.

How much could I claim?

You may only claim the amount that you have overpaid. You can check how much this might be by using our online Tax Rebate Calculator.

How long does it take?

It usually does not take more than 4-6 weeks from the date you have given us your details and all documentation. In some cases (particularly those submitted without a National Insurance number) it may take considerably longer. Insufficient or incorrect information may also lengthen the whole process.

How much do you charge?

We charge only 15% +VAT of your total repayment made by the Inland Revenue (subject to minimum charge of £50+VAT) . It is, of course, deducted from the payment so you do not need to pay upfront.

There is a fee from £75 (Vat inclusive) for submitting Self Assessment Tax Return. Remember that only those who:

  • are limited company directors
  • works or worked under Construction Industry Scheme
  • are self-employed
  • have high income (falling into 40% bracket)

have to submit Self Assessment Tax Return

Please however bear in mind that HMRC can sent Tax Return to any person in the UK.

Can you transfer money to bank abroad?
Yes. We can transfer your money to any bank abroad, but we charge £45 extra for this (to cover bank fees). You may also chose to have your money paid to your British bank or you can collect cash (subject to 3% processing fee)
